Guangdong-produced film'The Sun Rises on Us All' wins award at Venice International Film Festival

On the evening of September 6th, 2025 (local time), the major awards of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival were announced. Chinese actress Xin Zhilei received the Volpi Cup for Best Actress for her outstanding performance in "The Sun Rises on Us All," a film produced in Guangdong. The film was not only officially registered and approved as a project in Guangdong, but was also filmed entirely on location across the province, including in Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Shaoguan. Through its presence at the Venice International Film Festival, the film brings the rich landscape of Lingnan culture to the global stage.

"The Sun Rises on Us All" tells the tragic story of two former lovers who reunite after many years in a small southern town, only to be swept away by the forces of fate.

The film features many vivid scenes set inGuangzhou. The bustling Shisanhang Clothing Wholesale Market showcases the vitality and prosperity of Guangzhou's commerce; the tranquil atmosphere of Xinghai Park in Panyu District becomes a perfect catalyst for the characters' emotional reflection and outburst; Dongshankou exudes an artsy, petit-bourgeois vibe, with its specialty shops and trendy elements fitting right with the characters' inner feelings; the everyday life of Wuyang New Town vividly evokes the texture of common life; the cultural ambiance of Ersha Island, with its galleries and concert halls, creates an elegant and refined atmosphere; and the warmth of community life in Xiaoyuan New Village sketches a neighborhood full of human touch.

The film also includes scenes at the Shilong Bus Station in Dongguan and the pedestrian overpass outside it. Shilong Town is the earliest established town in Dongguan. With thriving commerce and well-developed transportation, it is recognized as one of Guangdong's four renowned towns.
